“Exploring the Concept of Photochromic Lenses”

We get you. Spending money unnecessarily in any capacity can be frustrating, and this includes eyewear. But if you’re looking for a great pair of all-around glasses, we may have the perfect solution for you.

Photochromic lenses are great because they offer eyewear coverage for both indoors and outdoors. With great flexibility, individuals can do the things they love the most with a single pair of glasses.

Keep reading as this eyewear technology may just be what you need to avoid excessive expenses and experience life with a natural ease.

What is “Photochromic Lens”?

You probably know photochromic lenses as “Transitions”. While that is just the most popular brand of photochromic lenses, there are other brands as well with similar lens technology.

Simply put, standard photochromic lenses change color in the sunlight. Typically, they are clear indoors and at night and change to gray or brown when exposed to sunlight. They work to expel UV rays from entering in the eyes, which is why they darken when exposed. Most photochromic lenses don’t change behind the windshield of a car. Ultimately, these glasses are good for transitioning indoors and outdoors whether for work or other activities.

Speciality Photochromic Lenses

There are a few other specific types of photochromic lenses with advanced lens technology that never turn clear.

Drivewear Lenses

Drivewear lenses are a type of Transitions. They begin as a light green color and turn dark rust in sunlight. They are a daytime-only lens that increases contrast and visual acuity. They are also polarized. They’re great for driving, golfing, and active sports.

Transitions XTRActive Lenses

Transitions XTRActive lenses turn dark in direct sunlight and behind the windshield of a car. They are also the darkest Transitions, even when it’s hot out. Other photochromic lenses are less active in hot weather. Transitions XTRActive lenses never get completely clear, but are a comfortable “hint of a tint” indoors which is fine even for nighttime driving.

Transitions Vantage Lenses

Transitions Vantage lenses turn dark in the sunlight and polarize in the presence of glare. This is incredibly remarkable technology as they are not polarized except when they need to be. They also will have an indication of tint indoors and at night, which shouldn’t impede your vision in dark conditions.
