Is There Something Even Better Than Transition Eyeglasses?
Transitions have been a mainstay in the eyeglasses world for quite a few years. Many people love the flexibility of being able to wear glasses that adjust to the lighting whether they are indoors or outdoors. Transitions eyeglasses are ideal for a lot of situations. Whether you are traveling a lot, working outside, or have to go in and out a lot – these are the best alternative right now. While many people have heard of transitions eyeglasses, is there something better on the horizon?
Transitions are the type of eyewear that adjust the tint depending on what kind of lighting environment you are in. If you’re inside and step into the sunlight, Transitions become darker in shade when they are exposed to ultraviolet light. These work great and are perfect for not having to change eyewear when going inside and outside. However, there is a new technology on the horizon that does more than just become darker in shade.
Designed by the Research Group from the Georgia Institute of Technology, this innovative type of lenses does a whole lot more. These new lenses change shades within seconds and is user-oriented. While this sounds like something out of a science fiction novel or movie, it is based in fact and on years of research. If you think about it, people in the past decades would have thought that Transition eyeglasses were just as strange as we might think that these glasses seem.
One thing is for sure, technology is constantly growing and one can only imagine what will be possible in another 100 years – or even less. Here is a little about these unique lenses that will hopefully be available shortly.
Made from blends of electrochromic polymer, the new lenses use a combination of ink jet printing and blade-coating to construct the lenses. What is so unique about these other than the fact that they change within seconds is that the electrochromic polymer uses a tiny amount of electricity and everything is user-controlled.
This means that even if you are in the sun and want the lenses to remain clear, that is a possibility. Plus, each person is able to customize their own lenses and choose the hues and colors.
The differences are vast. For instance, since Transitions only work in ultraviolet light, people who wear them won’t notice a significant change while in an automobile because the windshield blocks much of the UV light. Even wearing a hat can make a difference. Plus, since they take longer to work, it is not as safe for some to use such as an airline pilot or policeman. They are also perfect for construction workers, farmers, or anyone who simply wants to be able to block the sun in a faster way and choose how and when they want to do it.
With that ability to change at will and in an instant, this type of lenses are safer to use and much more convenient and user-friendly. Imagine a pilot suddenly encountering the bright sun after a storm and having to wait on the lenses to darken – this type of lenses eliminates that.
So far, only a study has been published in the ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces journal. However, the research and knowledge is there; it just depends on how fast that research will reach the consumer and at this point, no one knows.
For now, you will have to depend on Transitions eyeglasses, which are still well ahead of the technology spectrum and those are available right now. If you want to learn more about Transitions or any other type of eyewear we have, feel free to contact us and we will be more than happy to help.
