The Fringe Benefits of Wearing Prescription Ballistic Glasses

Most people are already aware that prescription ballistic glasses provide accurate vision for men and women who require corrective eyewear in order to see their targets. With some people unable to wear contact lenses for various reasons–such as dry eyes or allergies–prescription ballistics glasses meet an important need. Other than providing a way for such men and women to see well enough to hit targets, prescription ballistic glasses also provide several fringe benefits.

Benefit One: Seeing well enough to load your weapon

Depending on how many guns and types of ammo you brought along with you, when the time comes to reload, you may be faced with quite an array of options. Prescription ballistic glasses will allow you not only to focus your aim but also to see well enough to read the headstamps on your cartridges and ensure that the proper ammo is going into the proper weapon. In that case, both far-sighted and near-sighted shooters can benefit from owning their own pairs.

Benefit Two: Protecting your eyes from the unexpected

Out in the woods, anything can happen, and not all eye-related hunting and shooting injuries are directly gun-related. Hunters fall out of tree stands, are caught unexpectedly by branches snapping back toward them as they walk through the woods, and face any number of other hazards. Prescription ballistics glasses can therefore be worn in place of regular eye glasses when hunting in order to keep the eyes protected at all times from unanticipated dangers.

Hunters aren’t the only gun owners who face the unexpected. There are also hazards on the gun range. Although controlled environment generally present fewer hazards, it’s still best to be prepared.

Benefit Three: Guarding against the sun

According to the American Academy of Ophthalmology, anyone who spends large amounts of time outdoors–such as farmers, hunters, equestrians, and fishermen–could be at risk to developing UV-related eye growths that damage vision. Not only could extended sun exposure lead to the development of possible growths in the eye, but it could also lend to more serious conditions down the road.

Diseases like cataract and eye cancers can take many years to develop, but each time we’re out in the sun without protection we could be adding damage that adds to our risks for these serious disorders. Babies and kids need to wear hats and sunglasses for this very reason. People of all ages should take precautions whenever they are outdoors.

Wearing prescription ballistic glasses can help guard against these dangers. With the option of choosing smoked gray lenses that will shield your eyes, you are able to guard yourself against the worst rays the sun will throw at you.

  1. David Ulm says:

I haven’t been shooting for quite a while. I’ve always shot right handed/right eyed. I had catarac surgery recently in both eyes. The result is that my left eye is perfect far sighted, and my right eye is perfect for near sight.

When I aim my hand gun or rifle now, the sights are clear but beyond the barrel is blurred. Switching to left hand/side is totally uncomfortable.

    What are my best options?
